Crossing the Threshold

Which do you choose? The blue pill or the red pill? You remember Neo in the movie the Matrix? The blue pill keeps you in the world as you know it, the red pill brings you new knowledge and awareness – but once you take it, there is no going back and you have crossed the threshold.

That phrase “crossing the threshold” comes from Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey.” What Campbell did was to study hero myths, stories of heroes from all around the world, from different cultures and across time, and he found that every story had the same basic pattern.

The moment of Eve biting the apple, of Dorothy setting out on the yellow brick road, of Neo taking the red pill, he called “crossing the threshold.” Crossing the threshold is where the adventure really begins. I’ve noticed that it’s people who are taking the red pill, are the people who come for coaching.
